Maroochydore, AUSTRALIA – Typefi Systems Pty Ltd, a global leader in editorial and production automation software for scholarly publishers, has announced it has acquired Edifix®, an online bibliographic reference solution for automated styling, structuring, validation, and linking of scholarly references.
Typefi® has more than 25 years of experience developing software solutions for scholarly publishers. The company’s flagship software, Typefi, launched in 2001 and can automatically compose long, complex documents at speeds over 1000 pages per hour. The company also recently expanded into editorial solutions with the launch of Typefi Orion™, a seamless eXtyles® replacement, which has already attracted multiple major clients after just three months on the market.
“Edifix complements our new editorial focus perfectly, and it’s a primary component of the reference processing features in Typefi Orion,” said Chandi Perera, CEO at Typefi. “This acquisition will ensure that the scholarly publishing community has access to fast, reliable reference processing for years to come.”
Typefi has a long history with Inera®, the developer of the eXtyles and Edifix solutions, which was acquired by Wiley in 2019. The two companies have been partners for over 20 years, with multiple shared clients using both eXtyles and Typefi. Typefi has maintained this close relationship during the development of Typefi Orion, which already uses Edifix to automate reference processing. Typefi also integrated Edifix with Typefi Writer, a Microsoft Word® Add-in that enables automated composition of Word documents in Adobe® InDesign®, in 2022, so the company has deep experience with reference processing workflows.
“The Inera and Typefi teams have collaborated on automated editorial and production workflows for two decades,” said Liz Blake, Director of Production Services at Wiley. “With reference automation as a key component of their expanded offerings, Typefi is best positioned to maintain Edifix into the future, and we’re excited to see how they continue to grow the product.”
Typefi officially took over Edifix on 30 April 2026 and will fully support all existing Edifix contracts and functionalities. While Typefi has no plans to change anything about the software in the short term, the company does have plans for future improvements.
