Can Typefi Orion validate and format scholarly references?
Yes, Typefi Orion uses Edifix (another Typefi product) to automatically convert scholarly references to your house style, validate and correct them against Crossref and PubMed, and add clickable links to relevant databases. References are processed based on pre-defined style rules, and no AI or machine learning is used. Typefi Orion does the reference processing while you work elsewhere in your document—it doesn’t “lock up” Word while the process runs, which is a big advantage over eXtyles.
What reference styles does Typefi Orion support?
Typefi Orion supports more than 30 common reference styles for scholarly publishing, including AMA, APA, Chicago, CSE, MLA, Vancouver, and more. You can also implement your own custom house style within Typefi Orion, but additional setup is required.
Does Typefi Orion use AI?
No, Typefi Orion doesn’t use any artificial intelligence to process Word documents. All the editorial automation within Typefi Orion is rule-based—any edits made by Orion are done based on parameters defined by the user. There are never any hallucinations, and results are 100% repeatable.
Does Typefi Orion work on Mac?
No, Typefi Orion is currently not available for macOS. Typefi Orion is compatible with Windows 11 (64-bit), Windows 10 (64-bit), and Windows Server 2022.

Typefi Orion works with Windows 11 and Windows 10 (64-bit), Windows Server 2022, and virtual machines including Amazon and Azure VMs. Word Online is not supported; you must use a locally installed desktop version of Microsoft Word. Orion is compatible with Microsoft 365 on the Monthly Enterprise Channel (recommended), and with 64-bit Word 2016 (v16.x), Word 2019, and Word 2021. Is Typefi Orion cloud-based or on-premises?
Typefi Orion is available in both cloud-based and on-premises configurations, and both require Typefi Orion for Word to be locally installed on the user’s computer. The primary difference is that Typefi fully manages cloud-based installations, including software updates and server maintenance.
