In this four-minute Lightning Session from the 2019 Typefi User Conference, Typefi Senior Solutions Consultant Guy van der Kolk shares some lesser-known Typefi 8 validation features, and demonstrates how to access the version history of your files in Typefi Server.

So why would I be excited about a failure? As Caleb said this morning, Typefi 8 has been introduced in 2015 and we continue to improve. The failure that you see on screen right now is thanks to some of the new plug-ins that have been developed that allow us to warn you that something has gone wrong. So what's gone wrong in this case? Let's double click. And let's check the log. And in this case, it's telling me that there's a missing link. Isn't it great that we can warn you that your content is not complete before you publish the job rather than later? So let's fix this real quick. I'm going to close this. Let's fix this real quick 'cause I have the necessary things open. And while I fix this-- Oh sorry. Drag it here. While I fix this, and run the job again. Just to be clear, I'm running this from Writer, but this works just as well if you have an XML-based workflow. How many of you have URLs in your content? Hyperlinks? Okay, and how many of you struggle with the fact that these hyperlinks may be out of date? I think probably a couple more of you but you're just not aware of it. All right, so one of the other new validation plug-ins that we have is checking the validity of your hyperlinks. And I think this is huge. So the job is still going to fail because there is an invalid hyperlink in my content. Failed, yay, it failed. Let's view the logs. Apple.com/badurl cannot be found. Isn't it great that you can now come in here, and we'll warn you about this, and you can come in and change that and make sure that all of the content that you publish actually has good URLs. So this is some of the things that people like Caleb and I and the rest of the team work on very hard to make sure. Now one of the other things that we like to do is we like to make sure that you have proper versioning control. How many of you know that there's versioning in Typefi? Except the Typefi staff obviously. (audience laughs) So, looking at our templates. Templates or Word files are one of those areas where you have a lot of this, where versioning is quite important. So if you look at this template folder in Typefi 8, the blue sliders at the end of the template allow me to access my versioning history. And it allows me to see that I made a change in this case. It's quite useful to actually type what kind of change you made. But it will also allow me to go back to a past version in case that mistake was actually quite horrible. Now, this is just a small part because I only had four minutes. I can talk for an hour about these kinds of things which is actually what I did during the rehearsals. So one of the things that (laughs)-- one of the things that we're going to be doing very shortly is we're going to be doing a webinar for our existing customers on a lot more of these features than I can show in four minutes.
