Billabong reaps benefits by reducing time, effort and cost
2 March 2009 - Burleigh Heads, QLD, Australia
Typefi Publish, the automated publishing solution developed by Typefi Systems, has helped Billabong, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of board sports clothing and accessories, to automate the production of its product catalogues. This has enabled Billabong to reduce the time, effort and cost spent on graphic design and typesetting.
“Typefi Publish has allowed our Product Developers to maintain much of the catalogue content,” said Rhonda Saunders, Graphic Design and Publication Manager for Billabong. “This has helped us reduce catalogue production timelines and reliance on graphic designers to carry out catalogue composition.”
Using Typefi, Billabong Product Developers can edit catalogue content in Microsoft Excel, and with a few simple steps the graphic designers can produce catalogues in XML, print-ready PDF’s and editable Adobe InDesign files. Typefi Designer, a plug-in for Adobe InDesign, helps Graphic Designers set up the templates and layout rules that drive the design, without the need for scripting or programming. Product Developers can make changes quickly and easily and republish the catalogue. Since the output is an InDesign file, it can be edited for content or design changes.
“We are seeing a growing demand in the corporate sector for the type of automation Typefi provides,” said Typefi CEO Chandi Perera. “It allows an organisation to separate content development from design and presentation. The brand and its presentation remain a high priority for companies such as Billabong, but we are seeing an increased need in organisations to reduce costs.”
