Welcome to Typefi Talk, where we post news, tips and articles for our valued customers, partners and supporters.
Book retailer Dymocks launched its publishing service for authors, D Publishing Network, in Sydney, Australia, on 7 December 2011.
D Publishing Network enables authors to upload and edit their manuscripts through a browser-based application, with the ability to apply structure and styles, and insert graphics, images and tables. The interface, which was built by Typefi partner Immersive, also includes a dashboard for managing editing, printing, pricing, and distribution of the author's published works.
The author's content is tagged as XML and delivered to the Typefi Publish Engine and Adobe InDesign Server at the 'back end'. The back end, configured by Typefi partner Nexus, flows the XML into InDesign templates for output to PDF for print-on-demand, PDF ebook and EPUB. As well as handling complex design elements standard with Typefi Publish—such as image groups with captions; inline and floating text boxes; and portrait and landscape tables—the system uses additional Typefi modules for full automation of endnotes; indexing; and spine width adjustment for book covers.
Professional book designers worked with Nexus and Typefi Systems to develop the InDesign templates for the book text and the book covers to meet current and emerging industry standards.
